Charles Mingus 於1960年5月在紐約 Plaza Sound Studios 錄製，並於1961年9月由 Mercury 發行（美國Mercury發行時叫做 Mingus Revisited）專輯名「Pre-Bird」意指這張的作品是 Mingus 聽見 Charlie Parker 之前所創作的樂曲
Mingus 對早期 Swing 的深厚理解與再創造，融合 Third Stream、美國流行樂句與前衛爵士，Mingus 重新詮釋了如《Take the 'A' Train》並以《Exactly Like You》穿插其間，又以深情藍調《Prayer for Passive Resistance》展現靈魂張力，並由 Booker Ervin、Yusef Lateef 與 Joe Farrell 等奏出精彩。
編制豪華、巨星雲集，這張 2023年 Verve Acoustic Sounds 系列的 180g 重量盤，以原始母帶由 Ryan K. Smith 在 Sterling Sound 精製，24-bit remaster 豪華規格、原類比母帶翻刻，音質高度清晰、富含細節，Stoughton Printing 裝幀高級 gatefold tip-on 封套。對許多發燒友而言是無可取代的版本 。
